Miner's Plums!

September 27, 2008

Right now, hiding on almost every block, under every overgrown jumble of trees….a plum tree is breaking with the weight of its own fruit! Treat yourself to the joy and delight of finding your own backyard fruit source and glean what you can for an Indian summer treat!

This is local food at its best.

So far on my personal map of gleaned (foraged, wild, found) fruit I have fig trees, pear trees, black berries, concord grapes and MINERS PLUMS. The plums were actually the discovery of my sweetie…….he has an eye for these things. His latest find is located somewhere near Pine St in downtown Nevada City….little green marble sized Miners Plums. Go, Now! Find your own fruit source and make someone happy with some delicate wild fruits!

  1. You and Joe should borrow some clubs and go glean your way around the Nevada County Country Club. There are pear trees in the parking lot, on the tee for hole #6 and in the fairway on hole #9 , there is a plum tree on the green for hole #6, grapes on the fence for hole #3 and water cress near hole #1!
