Goodbye for now Nevada City Farmer's Market

October 27, 2008

This Saturday was the final downtown Nevada City Farmer’s market on Union Street.

The streets were alive with farmer’s in costume and their booths were bursting with colorful fall produce……winter squash, purple Peruvian potatoes, greens, turnips, beets, carrots, apples, figs, and my personal favorite….persimmons!

I was struck with the sense of community that the market has created downtown. It is a wonderful weekend event that I know I look forward to each week. A chance to see friends, enjoy hot coffee and really be immersed in the glorious LOCAL FOODS lovingly grown by the rock star farmers in the county. Each market has also featured music and or food/ag related demonstrations and events.

Some of the regular farms at the market have been Mountain Bounty Farm, run by John Techlan and Angie Tomey, who is also one of the market managers. Naked Farms, Bluebird Farm, Heaven and Earth, Towani Farm and Olive Oil, and lots more!

I know next summer the return of the market will be yet another wonderful thing I can look forward to!
