Edible Landscape

November 10, 2008

It is possible to grow food in almost any amount of space….be it your back 40, or a pot in your windowsill. The understanding and appreciation that takes place when you see something go from seed to table by your own doing is very inspiring. I find that this beautiful process brings me back to what it real, what is simple and what is vital!

The front yard of the cooking school is coming to life as my winter garden comes into being.

Beautiful French radishes have begun to appear out of the soil……started from seed, the mystical DNA of life prevails!

Along with the radishes I have Thyme, Marley Mint (personal favorite), oregano, garlic and collared greens! This is in less than a 5 foot radius of land.

On the other side of the yard, I have a patch of arugula which will continue to grow through the winter, and some red lettuces.

Once you realize how easy it is to grown herbs, you will forever lament buying them at the market…..so get out there and start cultivating your own back (or front) 40!!

Here are some local resources for starting your own edible garden, a VICTORY garden, perhaps?
