Northern California Ocean and Farm Bliss!
I spent this weekend at the housewarming party for my dear friends, the Lady Shopkeepers of Gravel and Gold.
Our time was spent cooking, laughing, talking and holding babies. The new homestead is in a place called the Mesa. It is very windblown and cliffside…. perfect for a very dreamy weekend!
Mama Cass made sure that Joe and I had a proper farm tour of one of the local organic farms, Gospel Flat Farm. Located on the only road in and out of town, the farm features a 24 HOUR FARM STAND! The handsome young farmers bring fresh vegetables to the stand throughout the day. From talking to Cass and some others, it seemed like the farm stand was a main supplier of the town veggies.
One of the other amazingly innovative undertakings the Gospel Flat family was involved with was a traveling canning kitchen made out of an old boat! They had most recently taken the boat down town to a SOLARbration and given a community wide canning workshop. This is what the incredible space looked like.
In addition to this all around radness, the farmers at Gospel Flat are really sweet people with a deep respect for the land the community, I couldn’t help but see some similarities between there and the local food community being born in Nevada City…..I look forward to more exchanges of food and ideas in the near future!

Like I said, great haircut!
