Thank You Mom and Dad!
This weekend was the SYRCL film festival, a huge event for our community. It was so wonderful to see so many people out and about engaged in a fun and informative dialogue about so many environmental issues. Living Lands Agrarian Network (my brother Tim’s non-profit organization) served up a yummy soup lunch and dinner 3 times over the course of the weekend, In the Kitchen provided food for the gala event and for a special private brunch on Sunday…….my parents were in attendance all weekend, enjoying films and festivities, helping both Tim and me in whatever ways they could, serving soup or holding Felix.
Their presence this weekend reminded me of how amazing they are and how influential they have been in my life, and how they continue to support all of Tim and my endeavors. Ginger and Tom Van Wagner have lived in Nevada City for 25 years. They both had careers as public school teachers, my mom spent most of her career in a 2nd grade classroom and my dad taught all the high school sciences. he now teacher part time at Sierra College.
They have been brave in their support of Tim and I both choosing slightly alternative career paths, having faith that we will find our way and create a niche for ourselves in the world.
In fact I want to point out that the creation of In the Kitchen in Nevada City was possible because of their generous initial financial support to get the project and building off the ground………basically what I am trying to say it that my parents have been close by every step of the way and they continue to offer their guidance and support at all times, in many ways and for that I am grateful.
I have been wanting to blog about this for sometime and after this weekend of seeing them at both of our events in town, I felt like the moment needed to be now.
I love you mom and dad!
