Sheila Cameron: Watching the Paint Dry Art Show at In the Kitchen

May 23, 2011

I LOVE this story and I am so thrilled to have Sheila Cameron’s work represented at In the Kitchen this spring…..I met Sheila through a friend as I was looking for new work to show at In the Kitchen in our dining space. I relate so much to Sheila in that we both have young families and are striving to strike the work/life/motherhood/me-time balance. I am inspired by her goal to carve out the time each day, every day for 1 year, 365 days to CREATE.

Please join us to celebrate and enjoy her 365 Days of Motherhood, Art, and Clichés!

Local Artist Celebrates 365 days of Blogging with 2 Local Shows

When Sheila Cameron relocated to Nevada City from Los Angeles 3 years ago, she vowed to make time for her art but with 2 small children, she found it difficult to take advantage of her new studio space.

“I kept waiting for the extra time and inspiration to appear but then realized, I needed to create that time myself. My family always needs my attention and focus. Why not find my inspiration there and commit to myself as an artist?”

That motivation launched her blog “Watching the Paint Dry: 365 Days of Motherhood, Art, and Clichés.” Cameron committed to daily entries for one year and will reach her goal June 1. She counts many locals as fans, as well as admirers from her previous online endeavors.

“I have been amazed at the wonderful feedback I get around town. Sometimes I forget that people are actually reading it and then someone I’m being introduced to will ask about a blueberry pie I posted about or how my husband is doing. It’s great to be connected to my community that way.”

Even better for Cameron 2 local business have offered to host solo art shows featuring her work. Her work is currently hanging at In the Kitchen where there will be a wine and appetizer reception on June 17 from 5:00-7:00

Sarah Mitchell Johnson will also welcome the artist to her space on Main Street in Grass Valley .

Cameron’s paintings and photography will be available for sale at both locations throughout the summer.
