September 28, 2011

Last month we held our first educational talk at In the Kitchen. Victoria LaFont shared her perspective on using nutrient dense foods to curb a raging sweet tooth and the kitchen was packed! I am excited to announce that we have 3 great speakers coming up in October, November and December who will share their own perspective on living the good life!

The first up are Sheasa and Lane O’Sullivan who own personal training company Body Card!

Talks are $10 and participation and discussion are encouraged!  Visit our webpage to sign up for one or all of the thrilling talks!

Monday, October 3rd
Educational talk with BodyCard: Why Dieting Doesn’t Work!
6 – 7:30 PM
$10

Dieting: why dieting doesn’t work, funny (and not so funny) dieting myths, how fad diets and diet-foods can hurt your body, and a delicious conversation on the natural means of slimming down and staying fit.

BodyCard encourages clients to maintain their health and weight by using real foods, void of processed proteins, artificial sugars, and other dangerous chemicals. They firmly believe that the dieting culture is one that creates temporary improvement to the physique based on life-long damage to the body. Their instruction of food diversity, the preparation of meals, and the art of keeping fit is free of “dieting” and full of lifestyle alternatives to create a consistent, manageable improvement.

Those who attend this class will receive easy, delightful recipes (client tested and approved!), instructions for the quick and efficient preparation of weekly meals, and a meal “blue-print” to make it simple for you to create your own all natural dieting alternative.

About the trainers at BodyCard:

Lane has been an ISSA Certified personal trainer since 1996. He currently holds several certifications including, Fitness Trainer, Elite Trainer, Master Trainer, Knee-rehabilitation, and Sports Nutrition. Lane specializes in in-home personal training with an emphasis on applied kinesiology, sports rehab, and USCF cycling coaching.

Lane began competitive road cycling on Team 7-up in his early twenties, and partook in several USCF courses on endurance training. As a competitive cyclist riding for many different teams, Lane completed the Tour of Gila, Valley of the Sun Road Race, Tour of Tucson, Tour of Utah, Redlands Classic California, Super Week, various regional races, and many more. Lane took his bike all across the United States, and says his favorite places to ride are the country landscapes of Ohio, Vermont in the early fall, and through the central valley of Northern California. For years, Lane held a ten mile time trial record with the USCF in the Redlands Bicycle Classic in Southern California.

When Lane reached his mid-twenties he became interested in professional body building. Lane saw it as a challenge to bring his body from the lean frame of a road cyclist to the muscle bound physic of a professional bodybuilder. Lane worked closely with dozens of other body-builders in Southern California during his time as a trainer. Within one year he went from a 170 pound Domestique rider to a 220 pound body builder at 6 percent body-fat. From there he began competing in the NPC and placed highly in his classes. This success lead him to a further interest in fitness. This passion couple with his experience in high endurance sports and body building led Lane to pursue a fulfilling, full-time career in Personal Training.

At the age of forty Lane has trained celebrities and regular Joe’s alike. His clients have come from all around the country to seek out the knowledge and passion Lane has for helping people achieve their goals. He helped one client lose 120 pounds of excess body fat, and helped another client achieve his cycling dreams after major hip surgery kept him sedentary for years.

Lane now combines professional body building, mountain biking, and road racing in a unique approach to achieving peak fitness. His main passions are helping people lose weight and get re-involved with life.

Lane enjoys time with his own family, traveling, giving seminars and classes, working-out, taking his son on bike rides in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, riding with Grass Roots Racing, and working with Vinny The Wrench (his Brother’s team and Cycling shop). Lane currently trains people in Northern California and owns his own in-home training business called Body Card.

Sheasa (AKA Orange Crush) became certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Science Association in 2004.  Shortly thereafter she and her husband became involved in their first in-home training business in Austin, Texas where Sheasa began to experiment by adding her personal chef skills to the current program design.  Driven by a passion for fitness and a love for food, she used her creativity to cultivate new meals and menus that did not sacrifice taste for nutrition.

Highly successful in this endeavor, she began her own business, Experience One, in 2005.  While her husband did most of the training, Sheasa cooked for their clients in their very own kitchens, carefully creating tailor-made dishes to suit each persons specialized needs.  Sheasa and her husband soon noticed that the in-home training paired with the personalized meals improved weight-loss and increased results dramatically.  Ever since then they have worked together providing home-cooked, organic, and fantastic meals with good old-fashioned in-home work-outs for amazing results.

Sheasa is currently training herself for the 2012 NPC fitness modeling competitions.  After having two children her goal was to be in better shape on her 30th birthday than she was on her 20th birthday.  After taking herself from a size 12 to a size 1, her passion for helping others was reignited.  With her personal goals reached and now surpassed, her current vision is to help others overcome their fears, take control of their bodies, and live life to the fullest.

In her free time Sheasa loves to blog, journal, and write fiction.  She has finished two novels and is currently working on her third.  She enjoys horseback riding, raising chickens, swimming in the Yuba River with her two children, and traveling.
